Report: Cup Final 2010
"Finally!"
Way back in April 2000, Putin had just seized power in Russia, Harold Shipman had just got sent down, and Craig David had just had his first hit with the prescient "fill me in". At this time it was "Britney who?" The world was a very different place. Well not quite, in northern France a bunch of Gauls look over the fence at the neighbouring village. "We need that Cup of magic potion, you know?" says Pikeydadofmiloatrix to Poonytryx and Rodnix. How right he was.
Although our Spencer-band has dominated the London Leagues for the last 10 years, the cup competition has been a journey of pain, disappointment and more pain. We've been over confident and lost (Blackheath), outclassed (OL Gunners) and beaten by ringers (PHC twice). In fact there have been so many cup disappointments that I cannot actually remember them all!
Well today that wrong was righted, the good guys actually got the girl and the humble neutral watching the game will have decided that the right, just and proper men of Spencer rightly were victorious.
To say that, Vikings are the best side we've played in a number of years and play in the proper manner of hard work and honest endeavour. We wish them well next season.
We knew it would be a game of hard work and few chances. Funnily enough we scored early again with Dom continuing his run of scoring in finals. We had further chances and kept the northern invaders down to lots of possession but few chances at goal.
1-0 HT
We are tired but we knew that if we kept rotating between us we could run the Vikings off the pitch. In the next twenty minutes we dominated the game and really should have finished the contest with a number of chances. However we didn't and when the last ten minutes arrived and the Vikings had nothing left to lose they threw bodies forward in desperation. With two minutes to go they scored a messy goal, which was proper gutting.
FT 1-1
However we had an ace up the sleeve, that is, practice and competence at flick taking across our team and a damn good goalie. They won the toss and went first, with young Douglas saving. The claret flick machine then rolled into action with RGT, Poon and Dan firing in excellent flicks. Douglas saved again, Victor fired in another and suddenly their boy HAD to score to stay in it. The pressure got to him and he fluffed a mile wide.
Joy unbounded and lots of hugging and high fiving-finally, against one of our toughest oppositions we've played over the years, we had managed to get our hands on the lovely plastic, cup shaped thingy.
We then watched the 6s win their cup final, however stuffing some disappointingly poor opposition pales in comparison to the legendary status that our heroes had elevated themselves too, by beating such a strong side.
Tea was taken with smugness and smiling faces (and tired limbs).
Gods of the game Johnstone, Kent, Parker, Harpin, Modasia, De Mello, Jones, Henry, Carpenter, Lawson, Leigh, Hontanon, Circuit, Cherry, Quaintrell, Glyn-Thomas.

Brillieant work chaps. These things are like busses, you wait years for 1 and then 2 come along at the same time. Delighted to be there and witness your top result. Great work
