About Us and Our Aims
Spencer Hockey Club is an amateur not-for-profit sports club. The
junior section has over 280 members and the senior section over 300.
The club has a written constitution and is run by the members on a
voluntary basis. When your child becomes a junior member, he or she
can enjoy the benefits of being part of this progressive and inclusive
sports club at the heart of the Wandsworth community. Members and
their immediate families have the right to use the bar and clubhouse
at any time during opening hours. Facilities can be hired for parties
and events. Full senior members can vote at the club's AGM in May,
and junior members vote through their team representative.
The aims of the Junior Hockey Program are to:
-
introduce children to the game of hockey
-
provide a safe and fun environment for children
of all abilities to play hockey in
-
develop children's skills as hockey players and
umpires
-
foster attitudes of fair play and co-operation
-
offer structured progression from schools into
junior club hockey and beyond
The training program is designed and overseen by
the Junior Section Head Coach, who is qualified to England Hockey's
Level 2 standard. Sessions are delivered by the age group coaches
most of whom are qualified to at least Level 1. All qualified coaches
have attended child protection training and are CRB checked. There
is always a qualified 1st aider at the sessions. Parents and senior
members of the Hockey Club also volunteer from week to week.
It's important that the children get individual as well as group attention,
therefore we try to maintain a ratio of no more than 15 children to
1 adult. (8 children to 1 adult for U7)
Spencer HC is part of The Spencer Club family, which
includes separate cricket, tennis, lacrosse and squash clubs.

How to join
The sessions are open to all boys and girls from the ages of 5 to
16. All level of experience are catered for. The children are split
into groups reflecting their size, age and ability.
Currently we are not able to provide playing opportunities
for new members over 16 years of age. Existing members who reach the
age of 16 will be given the opportunity to play for Adult Development
sides. This is reviewed annually.
You will need to complete a registration
form and pay your subscription. We aim to maintain a maximum ratio
of 15 players to 1 coach. Membership numbers are limited by the number
of coaches we have and pitch availability. Last year's members have
until 15 September to renew their membership, after which places are
open to new members and allocated on a first come first served basis.
Prospective new members should register interest
by email their name, date of birth and a contact telephone number
to LGairns@aol.com. You do NOT
need to complete a registration form until you have been given a place
and asked to by us.
Existing members should complete a registration form
and return before 15 September to guarantee a place. Downloaded
a registration form or obtain from the coaches or managers.
How much does it cost?
Junior membership covers all the Sunday training sessions and matches
from September to March. Most of our coaches work for free, so the
fees collected cover equipment, pitch hire, coaches' training and
insurance, and a contribution to the upkeep of the Spencer clubhouse
and grounds.
1st Child: £105.00 before 1 January 11. £60
after 1 Jan 11.
Each additional child from the same household: £85.00 before 1 Jan
11. £50 after 1 Jan 11.
There is no longer a "pay as you go" option.
